Italy Travel Guide

Italy TravelOf course you are well aware of the fact that Italy is one of the top tourist destinations of the world. Its beautiful scenery, its historic architecture, its world-famous cuisine, not to mention the rich Italian art and culture, has made the country top of practically every traveling enthusiast’s wish list. So if you have a holiday planned to Italy, there are lots of things for you to see and do.

A Capri boat trip is a must – Capri is one of the most visited islands of the country. From the Marina Grande, take a boat trip to the Blue Grotto, which is so named for the ethereal light that emanates from the waters. Hiking and climbing in Italy is a great activity, due to its tremendously scenic landscape. You can go hill-walking in the Valle d’Aosta region, or even go climbing in the Gran Paradiso National Park. You must visit the Mont Avic Regional Park – where you can check out different species of wildlife like ibex and chamois.

The Alps, of course, are a must-see. There are many major ski resorts in the Piedmont region (which lies to the west of Turin); you can make bookings at any of the following – Sauze d’Oulux, Bardonechia, or even Sestriere. If you head further north, there are resorts in the Aosta Valley like La Thuile, Courmayeur, and Cervinia.

If you would like to relax and rejuvenate yourself during your holiday in Italy, then we suggest some good old-fashioned spa treatment! Some of the Italian spas have been around since the roman era. You can try Acqui Terme in Piedmont, or Porrette Terme, or even L’Andana.

One of the most prominent tourist activities in Italy is truffle-hunting, for which the region of Umbria is noted. There is an annual festival in Norcia, where black truffles are celebrated. If white truffles are more to your taste, then you should know that these are available between October and December. Italian wine is a must-taste. Head to Tuscany to try some of the famous Chianti, which is made in the area lying north of Siena. You will also find that many wine cellars are open to tourists.

Of course, checking out the restaurants, pubs and the general nightlife in Italy is a must for any traveler. We suggest you head to the district of Trastevere – in Rome. Italy is also famous for its water sports – you can try the Italian Riviera in Liguria.

The architecture in Rome is one of the major tourist attractions in Italy. You must check out the Coliseum – which is considered a symbol of the past glory of the Roman Empire. Then there is the Pantheon – which is one of the Roman Imperial era buildings. This place was originally used as a temple, it served also as a church, today it serves as a final resting place for the first two monarchs of Italy, as well as the painter Raphael. The Vatican, of course, is a must-see; this is basically the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church.
